OK, Rio
Did America really need to prevail in hosting the Olympics again?  I don't think so.  And it's not just because our lobbyist-in-chief, who I have an admitted bias against, went to bat for it. South America has never had the games, and we've had them four times. Rio is a wonderful city, so far as I can determine. It's certainly a popular and exotic vacation spot--something Chicago sure isn't.  And do we really need to have the world peering in at an American city that's known for so much crap, from Al Capone to union corruption, to mayors Daley (both father and son), to the latest news of a street gang fight that led to an honor student's death?  If we're ever going to host an Olympics again, let it be many years hence and in a city we don't have to apologize for.  How about Knoxville, Topeka, or Roanoke?  Too small, you say?  Let them decide.
